Half of the complaints about digital purchases start with one phrase: "I thought that...". It was written in the description, but the word turned out to be unfamiliar. I compiled a glossary of terms you will encounter in product cards. Save it to your bookmarks and refer to it before payment.

Block 1. What exactly do you get📦

Account. Login and password for the service. Ask who owns the email and if the details can be changed.

Access. You get the right to use the service, but you don't necessarily own the profile. A typical example is a subscription to your email.

Key or code. A string that you activate yourself in the required application. Check which region it is for.

Invitation link. You are added to a family or group subscription. The conditions depend on the rules of the service itself.

Block 2. Quality parameters⭐

Account age. How long the profile has existed. For social networks and forums, it affects the platform's trust; for subscriptions, it doesn't matter.

History. Were there publications, comments, activity? Find out which ones: the description should specify.

Email status. Is the email included in the package and can the password be changed? Without access to the email, the account is fragile.

Binding. Phone, 2FA or other binding to the previous owner. Find out how to remove it.

Block 3. Terms of use📋

Region. The country for which the subscription or key is valid. If you live in another country, the subscription may not work or switch prices and catalog.

Duration. How many days, weeks, or months access is valid. The phrase 'forever' without explanations is a reason to be cautious.

Format: personal or shared. A personal profile is yours, a shared one is shared with others, so session overlaps are possible.

Number of devices. How many screens can work simultaneously.

Block 4. Buyer protection

Warranty. The period during which the seller is responsible for the functionality of the product. Find out from when it starts and what exactly it covers.

Replacement. What the seller does if access is lost: replaces, refunds, extends the term.

Manual or automatic issuance. Automatic - immediately after payment, manual - the seller sends it manually, so it takes time.

Dispute. The procedure when you and the seller did not reach an agreement. The administrator reviews the correspondence and makes a decision.

How to apply it: example🔍

Reading the lot: "Account, 2 years old, region USA, email included, 14-day guarantee, manual delivery." What do we know? The profile was registered two years ago, linked to the USA. You will also receive access to the email. You can request a replacement for two weeks. You will have to wait: delivery is manual. See how quickly everything reads when you know the terms?

Red flags 🚩

No deadline or guarantee.

The description does not specify the region.

"All questions in private messages."

Too short description for an expensive item.
